Obviously, we still need to build a game for programming, but at the same time we need to stimulate our thought process. I'm beginning to finally understand that in this class it's not all about the assessment, it's about being open to ideas and finding out what you can do with them.
So when we started all this, I came up with this idea about Coconuts just floating in water, around 5 or 6 of them. The coconuts slowly start moving around, then faster and faster. The player has to keep these coconuts away from each other, if at least one of them collides then it's game over. This seems innovative/different to me, but less exciting. (Excuse the terribleness of the quick drawings).
After my conversation with Justin, I came up with the idea for Coconuts (I know that Coconuts are overused for this theme, but these concepts are best with them) being thrown toward a hut in the middle of the screen, the player who has control of a mouse around the screen has to throw rocks to intercept the coconuts and prevent them from doing damage to the hut. The hut has a health bar so the player knows how well they're doing, but the health bar will only be limited to around five or six hits.
Now that we have an extension for over the holidays, I'll definitely be working on this. It will be challenging, but making something that's easy is boring. I've got to plunge myself into the deep end and come out of it actually learning something. Which feels really cheesy to say, but whatever.
Jason.
